How It WorksThe RxSalary Calculator searches over 107,000 records in our database, and returns your result based on experience, degree, position, function, setting, specialty and location (within a 50 mile radius). Records older than 240 days are automatically excluded from the search. The result is extracted from a minimum of 100 matching profiles. If your search is for a location that doesn't have at least 50 matching records available, the area searched expands from 50 to 75, then to a 90 mile radius to maintain data integrity. In the case of a unique skill set (if the database cannot locate over 25 matches for the location using the 50-75-90 rule), the algorithm will expand the boundaries to state, then region... and finally nationwide. In densely populated metros like New York or Los Angeles, your result is computed using hundreds of records (in most categories)... but in parts of Alaska (as an example) the search has to expand to a wider area to provide a comparison. The calculator is designed to always return a result. There are cases where a search will not return a local result: PhD in Pharmacology, working as a Principal Scientist for a pharmaceutical company, located in Utah. In cases where a search produces too few matches nationally (threshold is <500), the result is computed by performing an interpolation of available data. A search for VP of Pharmaceutical R&D would fall into this category. Selection of an unreasonable combination: Principal Scientist, working in retail, with a specialty in Immunology/Transplantation, will generate a result that is not credible. Benefits are difficult to attach a specific dollar amount to, so a base salary less benefits is provided. Retailers, hospitals, health systems, MCOs and pharmaceutical manufacturers nationwide use our expanded data to determine competitive compensation. Because our data is extracted directly from employers (rather than anonymous surveys), hundreds of employers feel that it is the most accurate source available nationally. Extensive user testing since April, 2000 has indicated that in greater than 96% of searches, the salary is accurate within 4%. To maximize security, the database is maintained on a separate secure server - and your result is sent via email. |
